In order to carve out a special niche for the highest quality Chiantis, the new category of Gran Selezione was unveiled in 2014. To meet this highest standard in the region, the wines must be made only with estate-grown fruit (at least 80% Sangiovese) and aged for at least 30 months. Gran Selezione wines are noticeably superior in terms of the finesse, structure and complexity that they offer, rivalling some of their Super Tuscan counterparts. Once bottled, they sit for another year prior to release into the market.
The colour of the wine is an intense ruby red. Generous floral aromas entice from the glass, and the flavour profile is comprised of cherry, dried fruit and herbal notes as well as cinnamon and vanilla. This wine has excellent structure, with a long and elegant finish. The 'Sorleone' makes an ideal match for cured meats, aged cheeses, game and stews.
