Two of the very best clones for the purpose of premium winemaking, actually originated in the Emilia-Romagna region. The basic character of the dominant clone here, Sangiovese Romagnolo can be heavier than in Tuscany, with a juicy clarity and fine tannins, although comparatively more rustic than Chianti Classico.
In the hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines not far from the medieval city of Bologna, the family-owned Tenuta Folesano continues the great winemaking tradition of this ancient site, guided by their philosophy of producing flavoursome, structured wines with minimal impact on the environment.
Certified organic, the 2018 Conti di Panico is deep crimson in the glass. The wine displays characters of plum, cassis, and blackberry with hints of tobacco and spice. This savoury style pairs brilliantly with cured meats and baked pastas.
